Body Brave was built by volunteers and we greatly depend on volunteer support. Volunteers help with events, fundraising and administrative tasks. We are always looking for new volunteers to help us advance our mission.

With huge demand and big goals for 2020, we need your help! We’re particularly looking for people who share our passion and have the energy and/or expertise to help us fundraise. We always need volunteers to help us with events, social media, as well as community outreach. VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM

The information is held in strict confidence and is used to match your interests and needs to volunteer activities and to show our overall picture of volunteer data. Phone numbers or e-mail addresses may be given to staff or other approved volunteers to contact you for volunteer activities / shifts.  Reading the volunteer policy is mandatory before submitting an application.

Social Media Volunteer (Position Open)

Body Brave is a national Canadian charitable organization that believes in recovery from eating disorders for Every Body. 

OUR MISSION 

As a leader driving change, Body Brave is a charity providing accessible eating disorder treatment and support, as well as advancing community training and education. 

ROLE 

The Social Media Volunteer is responsible for curating and scheduling incredible, inspiring content for our social media platforms. They must review each piece of content and write appropriate captions and disclaimers. The volunteer will help to create and locate new content for future posts. 

COMMITMENT  

We ask that you commit to 4 months. The first month is a trial month, during which you will be provided with extra support and guidance. After 4 months, you may choose to continue volunteering with us for another 4 months (this period can be renewed multiple times). 

Volunteers are expected to commit a minimum of 5 hours per week. They are free to volunteer at any time throughout the week, as long as they complete all assigned tasks. 

More information regarding tasks will be provided if you are selected for this role. 

TASKS:

 – scheduling a minimum of 2 days worth of posts every week on all our social media accounts. 

– searching for and selecting content and posting it in a social admin group at least 2 times a week before it is widely posted 

– ensuring that all posts have appropriate comments and adhere to the values of Body Brave 

BENEFITS 

 – Give back to the eating disorders recovery/body-positivity community. 

– Gain a non-clinical eating disorder certificate from Body Brave after completing our training  

– Gain experience in social media admin work. 

– Learn about new perspectives and research related to eating disorders, mental health, and body positivity. 

– help uplift the voices and work of marginalized and underrepresented communities. 

OUR EXPECTATIONS

 ensure that all the tasks you were assigned are completed by the end of the week. 

– adhere to the values and beliefs of the organization. 

– take into account various experiences when writing captions and selecting/making content. 

– NOT provide any type of advice in the captions of posts, even if you are a certified professional. 

– take time to make or find original, unique, and meaningful content. 

– build relationships with various creators. 

– prioritize your health and well-being

If selected as a volunteer, you will be provided with online training that contains detailed instructions, expectations, and resources. You will also receive support from Body Brave team members.  During the trial month, you will be expected to check-in with a supervisor once every week. After the first month, you will be asked to check in with a supervisor once a month. 

All volunteers are expected to have regular access to the internet and be able to write and read in English. 

PREFERRED SKILLS

 have some experience with running social media pages or groups. 

 have some knowledge about the anti-diet movement. 

– In a good space to be doing social media work 

Website Volunteer (Position Open)

ROLE

Each quarter, the Body Brave and Body Peace websites gets thousands of visitors from around the world. It is an important part of who we are! The Website Volunteer is responsible for updating and fixing minor issues on the Body Brave and/or Body Peace Conference websites to ensure it is up to date and running smoothly. The volunteer will manage requests from the Body Brave team and will help to ensure these websites look great.  

COMMITMENT

In general, the tasks are: 

  • Working on improving Body Brave’s and Body Peace websites SEO 
  • Fixing grammatical errors, broken links etc 
  • Updating the website, posting new content as requested by Body Brave team members

If selected as a volunteer, you will be provided with online training that contains detailed instructions, expectations, and resources. You will also receive support from Body Brave team members.

  • The website volunteer MUST have experience building website with wordpress and using various wordpress builders like Divi and Elementor
